Victor Harbor - a Seaside Encounter
Positioned in the heart of the Fleurieu Peninsula,
Victor Harbor is the perfect overnight stop for trips to the
wine district of Mc Laren Vale, Currency Creek and Langhorne
Creek.
Victor Harbor is a tourist popular seaside town
70 minutes south of Adelaide. Historically established as
an early whaling port, Victor Harbor is now home to a whale
interpretive center, and boasts one of the best areas to view
Southern Right Whales between June and September. It is also
home to Australia's first railway line, which was built in
1854, and runs from Victor Harbor to Goolwa. Known as the
"Cockle Train", this majestic old steam train still
runs today along the coast.
What's on Outdoors - Victor Harbor
Granite Island is a popular attraction for visitors
to Victor Harbor. Take the horse-drawn tram from Victor Harbor
across to Granite Island and enjoy "The Below Decks Oceanarium",
which provides underwater viewing of many local marine species,
including sharks and reef fish. Join the summer dolphin and
Australian Fur Seal cruises or in winter, view the magnificent
Southern Right Whales that make their annual journey from
the Antarctic into the region's protected waters. In the evening
join the Little Penguin interpretive tour, which includes
a guided walk through the local colony of penguins.
